Ms. O'Brien's First Grade Newsletter
February 7, 2014
Reading: We read Flower Garden by Eve Bunting. We worked on short o this week: box, shop, stop, etc. We reviewed base words and -ing. (going, sitting, getting, walking, etc.) We also reviewed ABC order again this week.
Our sight words for the week are: get, great, look, their, us, people
**We have learned all 100 First Grade Sight words now!!** We will review the sight words and work on the second hundred set.
Math: We learned how to measure to the nearest centimeter. We also learned < less than, > greater than and = equal to. We continue to review facts, time, money, etc.
Writing: We focused on writing this week. Always starting with a capital letter and ending with the correct punctuation. (.?!) We are writing four sentences in a sequence, using temporal words. (First, Next, Then, Last) Also we are making sure the i in a sentence is always capitalized! (My sister and I went to the store.)
Upcoming Dates: We will have a Valentine party on February 14th. There is a class list on the back of this newsletter.
There is no school on Monday, February 17 in honor of Presidents' Day. As long as we don't miss any days, our 100th Day of School will be on Wed. Feb. 19th. Also on Wed. Feb. 19 we have picture day for the children that return their order package. We will tour the science express on Thursday, Feb. 20 in the morning. (More information to come...)
Conferences: Please sign up for February conferences online. If you are not able to do this online, please contact me: 252-4665 ext. 4445!
Finally, we are almost out of snack crackers. Please have your child bring in a box of crackers to share with the class. Thank you!
